That’s a Wrap for 2021

letter from the editor

As a local business owner in Cowra, and Editor of your free weekly newspaper, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the readers, businesses and organisations in the Cowra Shire that have supported The Cowra Phoenix in its first year of publishing in 2021. This year has certainly thrown local business owners many challenges, and being able to continue to operate locally and attract local residents and businesses to spend locally has been, in my opinion, the most important thing for local businesses to focus on this year.

I was very fortunate when we started the Phoenix at the start of February this year in that we were between the COVID-19 outbreaks of last year and this year. Restrictions were very minimal, and we are able to start this business without any major COVID-related setbacks.

When I started the Phoenix I did so be-cause there was a very obvious gap in the local media market that other towns in the Central West had - a free community newspaper with a focus on positive, human interest, local news, and that completed all of its business processes right here in Cowra. I am so proud of what we have achieved in only 12 months, and what we have been able to provide for the Cowra Shire. Our newspaper is written, designed and printed right here in Cowra, which is something no other local media can lay claim to. We have also been able to extend our local employment as a result of this. I would like to especially thank the businesses that have advertised with us. They are our biggest supporters and we would not survive without them, especially our regulars in Cowra Council, Beds R Us, Cowra Civic Centre, Cowra Services Club, Cowra Bowling Club, James P Keady, Ray White Emms Mooney, Raine and Horne, Morgan Insurance, Railway Hotel, Inland Digital, Cowra High School, SWM Accountants and Garden and Montgomerie Solicitors.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
