St Raphael’s Catholic School held a special assembly on Monday morning to mark Catholic Education Week 2022, with a focus on the theme ‘Experience the Spirit of Community’.

The assembly was led by the school’s Student Leaders, with new Principal Michelle Deschamps addressing the school for the first time.

A group of students also performed a traditional Aboriginal kangaroo and emu dance to open the assembly, after a welcome to country.

The Student Leaders spoke about the importance of recognising Catholic Education Week, acknowledging that 2022 also commemorated 200 years of Catholic education in Australia, and 152 years in Cowra.

Mrs Deschamps said in her address to students and family members this year’s theme was important to recognise as it directly related to the growth and development of students at the school. “We’re privileged to experience the spirit of community... Catholic Education Week is a great chance to reflect on the Catholic education community at St Raphael’s,” she said.

“Students at St Raphael’s can make a significant contribution to the Cowra community... I believe all students can keep learning, face challenges and continue to grow.”

Tours of the school were also held throughout the week for parents and other members of the community.
