St Raphael’s Catholic School Welcomes New Principal

St Raphael’s Catholic School has welcomes new Principal Michelle Deschamps, who took the school’s top job at the start of the school year. It has been around 20 years since the school had a change in Principal, but Mrs Deschamps said she looked forward to setting and achieving her goals at the school.

She brings with her 31 years of teaching experience across all formats of education, and said she has had many opportunities to grow over the years. He previous position was Assistant Principal at St Andrew’s College in Marayong, Sydney, where she would commute weekly from her previous home in Millthorpe, staying with family in Sydney during the week while returning to Millthorpe on weekends. Having permanently moved to Cowra, she said it was great settle down in Cowra to live and work.

She said she aimed to continue building on the great reputation St Raphael’s already has in Cowra.

“I want to see each student achieve more than one years’ growth, and for them to have the same opportunities as their peers in the cities,” she said.

“I am working towards introducing a K-10 production, studentled newspaper, inter school debating, new agricultural opportunities and vocational education and training opportunities to provide the best pathways for students.”

She said she would also be focusing on the school community as much as possible, and would work towards bringing families in and making them as much a part of their children’s learning as possible.

She said the school’s involvement with the wider Cowra community would also be a priority under her leadership of the school.
