Bring A Bloke Week

Bring a Bloke Week was held at Cowra Ballet School for the second time this year as a means to honour the dads, uncles, brothers, grandfathers, and other important males in their lives. Many students brought a bloke to class so that he could engage and take part in the discussion as they studied grand jetes, pirouettes, cartwheels, and forwards rolls. The event not only celebrated the importance of male figures butalso fostered inclusivity and encouraged participation in ballet, showcasing the diverse talents and abilities of these blokes as ‘the worm’ and backflips were only two of the party tricks that several of the blokes shocked the school with! Next year’s anticipated events at the school include Bring a Bloke week for Father’s Day and Lead a Lady week for Mother’s Day in May, engaging the entire school community in celebrating and appreciating the roles parents play in their children’s lives.

Crackdown On Illegal Vape Sellers

The Minns Labour Government has pledged to spend $6.8 million over the course of three years to boost support for young people who are addicted to vaping and to crack down on the sale of illegal vaporisers. The investment will commit $2.5 million over the following 12 months to increase services to help young people quit vaping, including a new digital platform, improvements to the iCanQuit platform, and an online learning module for youth services throughout the state.

The investment will commit $4.3 million over the next three years to strengthen compliance and enforcement to ensure the state meets obligations for retail, wholesale, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical controls on vaping products. The ongoing work of NSW Health has shown how crucial it is that more measures be taken to stop the selling of illegal vapes and that plans be put in place to help young people who are addicted to vaping. There is compelling evidence that nonsmokers who use e-cigarettes or vapes have a threefold increased risk of switching to traditional tobacco cigarettes compared to those who have never used a vaping device. Nicotine can alter how the brain develops in young individuals, impede learning and memory, and worsen depression and anxiety.
