McCormack Welcomes Dedicated National Referral And Support Service For People With Disability

Member for Riverina Michael McCormack is urging those with a disability in the Riverina and Central West to take advantage of a new national referral and support service.

The Disability Gateway can assist with a range of support, from locating advocacy services, finding a sporting team that meets the needs of a person’s disability or identifying local disability-related events.

The service aims to improve navigation to accessing relevant information and services by serving as a central entry point for referrals to disability information, services and programs. It is available at www.disabilitygateway.gov.au or by calling 1800 643 787 Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm AEST.

People with disability who need support in another language can also contact the Gateway on 1800 643 787 and ask for an interpreter. Broadcast-quality television commercials and high-resolution versions of advertisements are available at: https://www.disabilitygateway.gov.au/about

Creating your own COVID 19 Check In Card

The COVID-19 check-in card is a printed card with a unique QR code that contains your registered contact details.

When you enter a COVID Safe business, a staff member scans your card and your visit to the premises is electronically logged.

The card provides an alternative check-in method for customers who don’t have smart phones and/or those who are not comfortable using the Service NSW webform.

Once you’ve created your card you can have it posted to you, or download a printable version immediately.

Note: This check-in method is only available at businesses that have a QR compatible device. It is not mandatory for businesses to accept COVID-19 check-in cards.

To get your own COVID 19 Check-In Card please visit the Service NSW Website.

Ability Network Continues Services

Ability Network is continuing to support elderly people and people with a disability this week as this is a much needed service for people who need help to stay at home.

The Ability Network team have been amazing in their willingness to change the roster at short notice to ensure that we can continue to work with families to provide services.

“While we have had to postpone some group activities, our focus this week has been providing individual support in a COVID safe environment, ensuring all COVID safety precautions are adhered to. We are checking in on elderly people who live alone or do not have transport to ensure that they have enough food and have some human contact in the week. We are also ensuring our clients with a disability receive the support they need to feel safe and connected with familiar faces.”

Our client, Tony, said: “I wouldn’t want to miss a day at Ability Network. The staff provide me with so much assistance and reassurance. I would feel very isolated and would struggle without their help. They are like family to me.”
