Cowra University of the Third Age (U3A)

The Cowra Cowra University of the Third Age (U3A) has been supporting people who are over the age of 50 who are without full time work. A unique way the group supports these people is by providing low cost learning and leisure activities that enrich and improve the quality of life for many.

The Cowra organisation provides guidance and advice to all the U3A Branches within NSW, this is an extremely impressive role appointed from the worldwide operation.

Since the devastating pandemic, numbers for the organisation has severely dropped, resulting in organisers calling for new members.

Interesting activities are held at the Cowra Senior Citizens Club on Railway Lane, which is a very accommodating location and is accessible by everyone. Anybody who is interested is welcome to visit on Tuesday or Thursday between the hours 9:30am and 12:00pm.

Delivery of Stormwater Drainage Projects

Cowra Shire Council has enthusiastically invited tenders who are educated and knowledgeable in the relevant fields of expertise for the delivery of stormwater drainage project. This includes the construction of concrete culvert and drainage structures, this would also imply the responsibilities of the repairs, replacement and new works within the Cowra Local Government area.

The council's main goal is to award to many suitable contractors. If this sounds like something your company would be interested in, the submissions close on 2:00pm Tuesday 22nd of August 2023.

Drought Planning for Regional NSW

Steph Cooke, the Member for Cootamundra, was one of many in attendance of the annual Bush Summit in Tamworth, to discuss concerns and brainstorm solutions to issues directly involving rural and regional Australia.

The summit is a key tool and opportunity to shine light on towns and communities across NSW who are all facing similar challenges.

A wide range of topics were discussed, including the impending dry conditions that are already effecting certain areas. This means water security and drought plans were a prioritised discussion, Ms Cooke expressed her understanding of the concern regarding water supply in parts of regional NSW and the lack of planning to deal with the incoming drought

"As many across regional NSW are well aware, more needs to be done to safeguard against the impact of natural disasters, and I along with my colleagues will be closely scrutinising the government's actions in this space." Said Ms Cooke

Save the date for Saturday, 26th August 2023, at the Cowra Show Pavilion for an important night that will be filled with inspiration, support, and community spirit. Popular personality in the world of sports broadcasting, Anthony Maroon, has graciously agreed to share his experiences and insights on mental health during the event.

With his captivating storytelling and heartfelt anecdotes, attendees will leave with a lasting impression.

This unforgettable evening is not only going to be filled with live entertainment, delicious food, but most importantly there will be opportunities to discuss extremely important mental health topics with a caring community.

Water Main Replacement

On Main Street, Gooloogong, Council staff will be commencing needed work. The work entails the replacement of a section of water main in the coming week. The works are anticipated to start on Tuesday 15th August 2023 hoping weather and resources permitting. Residents and motorists have been advised that there may be slight disruptions and changes to traffic conditions during this time. Council will have traffic control measures in place. The Council has apologised for the inconvenience this important works project may cause.

NSW Government Launches Cost Of Living Hub

Helping people in NSW find a way to cut costs and access financial or other support is set to become easier with the newly created Cost of Living Hub.

This NSW Government initiative provides resources and tools to help ease cost-of-living pressures via nsw.gov.au. People will now be able to access information from more than 80 government and non-government websites in one central place, along with guides and advice on how to save money and where to find various rebates and vouchers.

The hub content is tailored to provide easy access for everyone so they can find the support that meets their individual circumstances. The Cost of Living Hub can be viewed at https://www.nsw.gov.au/cost-of-living-hub.
