Lachlan Valley Railway has been awarded funding to extend the shed that covers the new entrance to its museum in Cowra.

Member For Cootamundra Steph Cooke announced the state government grant funding contribution last Tuesday, which is worth $19,690.

The shed that currently covers the LVR’s ‘DEB 953’ carriages and trailer, which has been refurbished to become the new entrance of the overall LVR Museum exhibit, falls short of covering the length of the carriages.

The funding will be used to extend it so it covers the entire length of the carriages. Director and Deputy Chair of the LVR, Cass Mendham, said the funding came as a huge achievement to the volunteer led group.

“The funding will help preserve all the work that we have done over the years making sure everything is in good condition for years to come,” she said.

The announcement came as the museum reopened to the public last Thursday.

“We’ve been closed for months so we’re really eager to welcome the public back through our gates,” Ms Mendham said. The grant will be funded under the 2021 Community Building Partnership pro-gram, and comes as a further boost to the LVR, which has received previous grant funding to restore its DEB carriages with new paint, repaired chairs, and instal air conditioning and an accessible ramp to the entrance of DEB 953.

The LVR is also hoping to receive future grant funds to restore its steam engine, ‘Rosie’, and the railway track from the museum to Holmwood, to enable it to run tourist train rides as it did a number of years ago.
