Cowra Civic Centre will present Mountain Goat Mountain, an innovative audio theatre experience for families to enjoy at home during these school holidays.

Created in regional Victoria by arts company Threshold, Mountain Goat Mountain has gained national and international attention for innovating the theatre form. When theatres across the country started shutting down in light of the COVID-19 restrictions, Threshold seized the opportunity to adapt one of their earlier installation works into a fully digital experience.

Using just a bedsheet, a mobile device or computer, pencils and a piece of paper, Mountain Goat Mountain immerses families in a 45-minute theatrical experience. Children and families are carried along by a narrative soundscape, and invited to bring their own creativity and imagination to the performance.

“This is perfect for families who have suddenly found themselves educating their children from home and limiting their social interactions,” said Jonathan Llewellyn, the Manager of Cowra Civic Centre. “With the challenges of not being able to have performers and shows travelling at the moment, we are thrilled to still be able to offer a performing arts experience that can happen at home, regardless of restrictions, sparking creativity and intergenerational connections.”

Combining technology and everyday objects with the ritual of theatre, Mountain Goat Mountain has opened up the idea of transformative space in the family home. Tickets are now on sale, with access to the theatre experience available from Saturday 18 September.
