A safety video, information video and safety signage will all feature in this year’s Cowra Tourism Corporation ‘Cowra Canola Experiences’ initiative.

While the region is currently in lockdown, Cowra Tourism plan to commence the initiative as soon as it is permitted to do so. The initiative has been created in conjunction with local canola farmers in order for it to proceed as safely as possible, after record numbers of tourists flocked to the Cowra region last year to witness the amazing colours of the golden canola fields.

While this proved a great economic boost for Cowra, some tourists were caught trespassing on properties to get their photos, causing some disharmony with local canola growers.

Cowra Tourism Manager Glenn Daley said his organisation met with some local canola farmers recently to devise a plan as to how tourists could still come out and enjoy the sights while minimising risks to themselves as well as the farmers.

Following the meeting, it was agreed that two videos would be made, as well as safety signage to be given to canola farms in the Cowra region.

Mr Daley said it was all about getting the right balance between tourism and re-specting the farmers’ land.

“Corflute signs will be installed on the fence lines instructing tourists to keep off the properties, and there will be a safety video and information video on canola produced, which will be distributed on social media and our new website, www.cowracanolaexperiences.com.au,” he said.

Cowra Shire Council has also committed to providing digital road signs advising tourists to keep off properties. Cowra Tourism is also planning flyover tours for the region, and hopes that these will become annual, seasonal events.
