Cowra Tourism Manager Kurt Overzet has labelled last weekend’s inaugural Winter Wanderlust Festival as a huge success, and says plans are underway to make the event an annual staple.

Winter Wanderlust was planned for the first time this year as an extension of the Cowra Wine Show Public Tasting that was already scheduled, to encourage visitors to town to stay for the entire weekend and participate in other activities, as well as encourage locals to get involved.

The festival featured various events across the weekend including food, high teas, luncheons, more wine tasting experiences, painting and market stalls, meaning visitors and locals alike had plenty to fill their weekend in Cowra.

Mr Overzet said the event exceeded his expectations, with between 450 and 500 people attending the events across the weekend, outside of the Wine Show, and an estimated 35% of those from out of town.

“We estimate the event has brought in around $25,000 to the Cowra economy through motel bookings and local spending,” he said. “We’re going to aim to make it even bigger and better next year and make it an annual event.”
