New Cowra PCYC Manager Jeff Taylor says he wants to ensure the youth of Cowra always have something to do, after being appointed to the position last month. Mr Taylor started in his new role on January 4, replacing former Manager Stewart Mead, who departed from the role late last year.

He brings with him many years of managerial experience, including 19 years as a manager for Woolworths in Sydney and Cowra, and most recently, the Store Manager of KFC Cowra. Having attended the local PCYC in his own childhood, and understanding how important the organisation is for providing activities and programs for local youth, he said he jumped at the chance to manage the Cowra branch.

“I saw the job as a way of giving back to the community, and becoming involves with the community and local youth,” he said.

“Our youth are so important. I was fortunate enough to have a strong upbringing and many opportunities, and in this role, I can make a difference and help others get the same thing.”

Mr Taylor said he looked forward to achieving great results in the position, labelling it as a “fulfilling, enjoyable and rewarding” role.

He said that he hoped to introduce additional PCYC programs in the near future, but for now, would work to deliver and strengthen existing youth programs such as “Fit To Learn” and “Fit For Life”.

He thanked fellow PCYC staff members Caitlin Dixon and Ruth Capps for helping him settle in to his new job.

“I couldn’t do it without them. Each of our positions won’t function without another missing, so it really is a team effort,” he said.

He added that he aimed to have air conditioning and heating installed in the gymnasium area of the Young Road site. Meanwhile, all social sports competitions are continuing at the PCYC, and any member of the public is being encouraged to take out PCYC membership and join in.

The current competition schedule is as follows:
Monday 6pm - Netball
Tuesday 5pm - Touch Football Juniors
Tuesday 6pm - Touch Football Seniors and Volleyball
Wednesday 4pm - Basketball 10-12 years, Basketball skills and drills
Wednesday 5pm - Basketball Skills and Drills
Wednesday 6pm - Basketball Thursday 5pm - Futsal skills and drills
