Milton Barnett of Cowra has been recognised for his 50 years of membership of Australian Lions, a truly wonderful gift of service as a member of Lions since 1972.

He was presented with his 50 year medal by District Governor Michael Ryan last week.

President of the Cowra Lions Club, Graham Apthorpe, said that Mr Milton was an outstanding and dedicated club member.

“He’s always present and ready to give of his time and expertise,” he said.

“On behalf of all our members we extend our congratulations to him and his support team member Mary Barnett.”

Mr Milton transferred from the Queanbeyan Club in March 2001 and during his time in Cowra he has served as Vice President, President, Treasurer (numerous times and is currently Treasurer), Secretary, Youth of the Year Chairman and has also served on many other committees.

During his time in Queanbeyan he helped resurrect the Club.

Since 2001 he has served on numerous committees and these are just a few of his achievements:

  • Prisoner of War Camp committee for work at the POW camp.
  • Treasurer of the Adventure Playground committee and was successful in obtaining several government grants.
  • Treasurer of the Merriganowry Progress Hall Association and was successful in obtaining several government grants for the refurbishment of the hall.

“Mr Milton has been a very active member of our local community, and in particular our local Lions Club, since his arrival in Cowra,” Mr Apthorpe said.
