Cowra Civic Centre has announced a program of theatre, comedy, dance, world and classical music, workshops, feature films, world cinema and documentary screenings including Australian and international artists.

After 50 years Cowra Council made changes to the operating model of Cowra Civic Centre to become a professionally run venue and, through various grants, begun an upgrade to the facility as well as investing in the cultural life of the community by programming arts events. The upgrades will help attract more users of the facility, encourage arts tourism to the area and create employment opportunities.

“Things have changed considerably at Cowra Civic Centre,” said Jonathan Llewellyn, Manager of Cowra Civic Centre. “We are now home for performing arts, an upgraded cinema and special events for the Cowra region. As well as hosting community and civic events, we are now presenting a weekly cinema program and regular offerings of professional theatre, music, dance and comedy events.”

The program of events reflects the diversity of the Cowra region and aims to pique the interest of everyone in the local community as well as offering unique experiences for visitors to the region.

The program so far includes dance shows “In The Zone” and “Infusion - No Movement, No Sound”, theatre shows “Jekyll & Hyde” and “Don Juan”, music shows “Four Seasons Series Winter Warmers with Chutney” and “Compassion”, live on-screen shows “A View From The Bridge” and “Follies”, movies “Six Minutes to Midnight”, “First Cow” and “Land” and “The Man In The Hat”, and documentaries “Gunda” and “Art On Screen: Botticelli, Florence and Medici”.

“This winter program is just a taste of what is to come and what the community should start to expect to see at Cowra Civic Centre on a regular basis,” Llewellyn said. “I encourage people to sign up for our regular e-newsletter, visit the website and like our social media channels as the program is being added to regularly.”
