Cowra took on Bathurst St Pats on Saturday in a fantastic show of skill and teamwork, taking home their second win for the season with the ‘old boys’ cheering from the sideline. It was a special day for the club as they celebrated their annual ‘old boys’ day with a tribute to Ace. The Magpies also stopped to recognise and acknowledge the indigenous culture within the history of the Magpies. The team sported some stunning heritage jerseys that incorporated artwork from local indigenous artist and junior magpie Sienna Ingram.

The players were completely unaware of the snap lock down that was being enforced only a few short hours from the final siren, which allowed them to keep their head in the game as they left nothing in the tank in their fight for the win.

Cowra flew out of the gates strong, countering the early try from St Pats Josh Western put Cowra on the scoreboard lifting it to 4-4 in the first minutes. The Magpies fired up, securing another 2 tries before half time with a momentary lapse in ball control and some missed opportunities costing them a potential 3rd before the siren.

The reserve side didn’t lose momentum in the second half taking to the field with a fire in the bellies. With defense dialed up, Cowra held Bathurst back and secured a further 2 tries and 1 conversion, sling-shotting the Magpies into the lead. With cheers and applause coming from the ‘old boys’ tent and the spectators, Cowra held their lead on the scoreboard finishing the winners at the final siren 26-8. The excitement was electric as the boys celebrated their long awaited second win for the 2021 season. Finishing a special day on a high, they were con-gratulated by the ‘old boys’ who shared in their achievement.
