Just when we thought sport was free to play again, the sporting community took another hit with a tougher regional lockdown coming into play. It is disappointing for many clubs as the semifinals began to kick off and presentation nights were fast approaching, meaning the players, whether big or small, had put a lot of effort in throughout the year to get to this point. With no exceptions to the rule, all sporting games across the region have been affected no matter their type. With the lockdown looking to extend long past the original 7 days, many clubs are left sitting on their hands waiting for the green light, but for some the lockdown could see their seasons finish up before the stay at home orders are lifted. While frustrating, it is the safest thing to do during these difficult times and in most cases the control over what happens during the pandemic is completely out of a club’s hands.
As winter comes to a close in less than a week and a half, so will winter sports. However the virus still looms, affecting many of our neighbouring towns and leaving the question of sport kicking off in summer hanging with uncertainty. So what can we do as a community to make sure we can see our fields, courts and turfs fire up again as the weather warms up? The answer is simple, we can all do our part by staying home and stopping the spread. Following the health advice from NSW Health and getting tested when we suspect even the slightest of sniffles, can go a long way in keeping Cowra safe.
