Cowra’s Rebekah Lazarou has proven to local youth it is possible to achieve business goals in Cowra, having started her own events planning business “Strawberry Hills Events”.

While much of Cowra’s youth leave town to pursue university degrees and careers in other industries, Miss Lazarou has bucked the trend, establishing her business earlier this year while studying events management and tourism locally at Cowra TAFE.

She recently hosted her first public event, “Christmas in July”, a luncheon held at The Quarry restaurant, which proved a relative success, with around 30 people attending during a sudden COVID scare in neighbouring shires.

Miss Lazarou said she identified a gap in events planning in Cowra, and decided in Year 12 that she wanted to pursue a career in that industry.

“I didn’t want to go to university, and I always loved to plan and organise things. I did work experience at Sydney Harb our Exclusive, and this made me want to become an event planner,” she said.

Miss Lazarou then enrolled at TAFE and completed her 18-month course in May this year.

Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic impacted her practical opportunities whilst studying, she was still able to rack up a lot of experience, assisting in the running of Cowra’s Festival of International Understanding in March this year, as well as the Cowra Business Chamber’s events the “Cowra Business Awards”, “Business After 5”, and “Women in Business”.

Her main focus at the moment is picnic catering, which she offers to everyone. Her “P.S. I Love You” package caters for two people, with the optional add-ons for additional people, and can be arranged anywhere in Cowra.

To make a booking, phone 0407 824 128, email info@strawberryhillsevents.com.au or send her a Facebook message to her Facebook page, @strawberryhillsevents.
