Despite an industry-wide shortage of veterinarians, local vet surgery Central Vet Services has still proven it has what it takes to save the lives of loved furry friends.

Two local residents have come forward to The Cowra Phoenix in recent weeks to provide great feedback on Central Vet Services, with both stating the lives of their dogs were saved. One of these residents was so happy with the work of Central Vet Services they paid for a full page ad for them in last week’s edition of The Cowra Phoenix.

Central Vet Services Manager Katy Oliver was delighted to hear the news when The Cowra Phoenix made her aware of it. She said that due to the current vet shortage her practice hasn’t been able to always offer a 24/7 emergency service, and had made the difficult decision to not always take on new clients. However, she it had placed a large focus on maintaining a high level of quality care for the animals it cares for.

“We are a mixed care service that offers care for all animals of all breeds and sizes,” she said.

“We only have one full time vet at the moment, but we are extremely proud to have nurtured and blossomed many junior vets that have unfortunately had to leave Cowra.”

“We have access to a number of locum vets that work with us on rotation which has helped us a lot. Some vets do this full time due to the vet shortage.”

Katy praised the work of her full time vet, Karen Macalpine, who has over 20 years of experience behind her.

“She is very compassionate, takes her time with her clients, and delivers very high quality services, and her clients are very loyal as a consequence,” she said.

Katy also praised the efforts of her four vet nurses, and encouraged locals to understand all vet practices are extremely empathetic, and did not enjoy turning away customers when they needed to.
