Central West local Daphne ‘Daffy’ Cox has gone viral over the last 12 months, with her funny remarks and videos online attracting a massive following of over 108,000 followers on her Facebook page.

Daffy, who lives near Cowra, was featured on national breakfast show Sunrise on Channel Seven last week, and will also make an appearance on Radio 2GB with host Ben Fordham in the near future.

With over 46,000 ‘likes’ on her Facebook page and more than double the number of followers, she has become a local celebrity with her witty remarks that has attracted both a national and international following.

Granddaughter Mel Prescott said she has been filming Daffy and her good sense of humour for years, and would just send them to friends.

When last year’s COVID lockdown began she started posting the videos to her own Facebook page, but with so many people asking her to make the videos public for all to see, she decided to create the Facebook page ‘Daffy’s Wise Words’.

Within two weeks Daffy had already amassed 13,000 followers on her page.

“I just wanted to show people how awesome you can be at 93 and that age is just a number,” said Mel of her grandmother, who turns 94 in May.

She said that Daffy has always been up for a joke or a good laugh.

“I would say in the last 5 years she developed this attitude of not really worrying about what anyone thinks of her. She is more vocal in telling people what her opinions are and what she thinks. She quite often says ‘well they either like me, or they don’t and I don’t care if they don’t,” said Mel.

Mel said that Daffy has “become everyone’s grandma” through the success of her Facebook page.

She said she believes Daffy’s “no nonsense, knowledgeable but loving approach” to life was why so many people had chosen to follow her.

“Daffy does not care and I think her followers love that about her. Daffy is not fake and people just love the realness of her.
