Karen Reid

Karen Reid channels her passion for netball into her volunteer role as a dedicated coach on the netball courts, leading her junior team through the ups and downs of competitive sport for the past 5 years.

What team do you coach and how long have you been coaching?
I have been coaching a representative Netball team for Cowra. I have coached the same amazing group of girls since they were 11 years old, a total of 5 years.

What draws you to netball and why did you decide to be a coach?
I have been playing netball since I was 5 years old. My mum was heavily involved in the committee, taking on roles including coach-ing. I always wanted to be able to do the same for my daughters, as these were some of my best memories growing up.

What is the best thing about coaching youths in a team environment? I love watching the bond that is created with the girls and parents. These girls may not have met or been friends without netball. They attend different schools and have different groups of friends. I love that they come together and play for each other.

What advice would you give people who are interested in coaching a local sporting team in Cowra? Being a volunteer in a local community sport is extremely rewarding. You ride the highs and the lows of yours and their achievements.
