Little Wings Riders Progressing Well

Little Wings Riders

Cowra’s Frances Woodbridge has made it down to Adelong, near the Victorian border, as part of her fundraising horse ride for Little Wings, from Cowra to Melbourne.

It has been a big adventure for Mrs Woodbridge and her crew, who left Cowra on Thursday September 1, to embark on their 800km journey south. The ride is to raise funds for Little Wings, a children’s charity, and will finish at the Equitana horse festival in Melbourne. Mrs Woodbridge has been joined by close friend Karren Cave, Cowra locals Ruby McCabe and Jack McCabe, their mum Jo McCabe, and Frances’ granddaughter Alanna Woodbridge.

They have been supported by Frances’ husband Brian Woodbridge and Don McCabe, who have been following them in a car.

The six horses that are being rode are Nina, Monty, Egg, Pearl, Blaze and Sonic, provided by Lauren Woodbridge at Black Pearl Horses.

Karren Cave said the journey had been an adventure so far, with inclement weather and a horse escape throwing a spanner in the works, but they had been well looked after by locals in the towns they’d visited so far.

“The horses escaped near Wombat for about 5km, and it took half an hour to catch them,” she said.

“People have been really good to us so far, giving us accommodation for free and donating food and supporting our ride.”
