The second annual Koyo Matsuri festival was held at the Cowra Japanese Garden last Wednesday and Thursday, and proved another huge success, with school students, the general public and special dignitaries alike enjoying the festivities.

Member for Riverina Michael McCormack joined His Excellency Yamagami Shingo, Ambassador of Japan to Australia, as a special guest at the event’s Mayoral Reception last Wednesday evening.

“I was delighted to attend the Kōyō Matsuri Autumn Festival Mayoral Reception at the world-famous Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre,” he said.

“Our region has a strong multicultural presence – arguably none more so than Cowra where the local community has done so much to build a positive relationship with Japan from such a tragic moment during World War II.”

“His Excellency Yamagami Shingo, Ambassador of Japan to Australia, delivered a wonderful address expressing his close affinity with the town and I commend the organisers for hosting a wonderful event.”
