Cowra Civic Centre will present two performances of Kangaroo, a new play by Bathurst playwright Miranda Gott. Kangaroo is truly inspired dramatic piece of theatre that audiences will relate to as it weaves and dances, revealing a dark and poetic world of solitude, strength, survival and death.
Pulling together a creative team mostly from Central West NSW, the production had a sell-out world premiere at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre and received critical acclaim: “The real star is Gott, who’s debut playwriting foray has produced an enthralling piece of theatre that warrants attention.” Western Advocate
In a small regional town (it could be Cowra), three strangers share their own funny, yet tragic, stories that cause their lives to converge. Melissa, a young mother, is optimistic and up-beat. A decision for a better future has potential for unplanned consequences. Mick, is enthusiast for his work – tending the sewage facility and collecting the town’s garbage is surrounded by stacks of books. As a child a betrayal by a trusted adult formed his home-grown philosophy about life’s disposability. Barbara, a former university lecturer in art, has made a fresh start with a tree change from the city. However, she is confronted by the reality of country life and death among rural animals.
Suitable for ages 14+, Kangaroo is stark, alarming and darkley humourous. it will be perfomed on saturday 7 August for two performances only.
