Cowra’s Joanna Treasure has been named the Employee of the Year at the 2021 State Business Awards by Business NSW at an online Gala Awards event last Friday night. Ms Treasure is just the second award nominee from Cowra to win a category at the NSW Busines Awards, after the Cowra Business Chamber became the first when it won Local Chamber of Commerce of the Year in 2019.

The Outstanding Employee Award recognises an inspirational employee who has demonstrated a passion for their role and a commitment to their workplace and community.

Ms Treasure initially won this category at the Western NSW Business Awards in October and then progressed to the State Business Awards to compete against the 11 other regional finalists from across NSW.

The judges of the NSW Business Awards commented that “Joanna is a truly impressive young person with an admirable commitment to agriculture, leadership, sustainability and her own personal development.”

“It is fantastic to see Jo win this prestigious award and she should feel incredibly proud to be named as the State’s Outstanding Employee for 2021, said Vicki Seccombe, Regional Manager – Western NSW, Business NSW.

“These awards are all about celebrating and showcasing the diverse array of talent across our business community in NSW, and it’s so inspiring to see a young farmer and the agricultural industry being highlighted so brightly.” said Ms Seccombe

Ms Treasure works as a Property Overseer at Thring Pastoral Company, as well as working in the family farming business and a shearer.

She has been a Director at the Cowra Services Club in recent years and was the first ever female Director when elected.

She is an active member of NSW Farmers Association and the NSWFA Young Farmer Council, and supports the younger generation of farmers through speaking engagements with regional high schools, also creating a project at Cowra High School to help students raise lambs and equip students with an insight into animal agriculture.
