This week Facebook and the Morrison Government came to loggerheads over sharing news content on the social media site with an agreement on paid content unable to be reached.
Locally, this means that readers of the Phoenix newspapers will still be able to get the paper and access our websites and instagram for current news and events but just not via Facebook until the stand off between the parties is resolved. Phoenix Newspaper Group owner Joshua Matic said “Facebook has effectively pulled the plug on us all and while it is far from ideal, especially for those who relied on the social media site for news and events, it means that for us at the Phoenix Newspaper Group we will have to do things a little differently until we know what is going on.”
“It makes it challenging trying to run a local media outlet and keep the community informed when one of the key, instantaneous communication tools like Facebook is unavailable.
“Fortunately we don’t rely as heavily on it as others as we are weekly community newspapers and we hope our readers and advertisers recognise that we are all doing our best in these uncertain times,” he said.
As a result, the Phoenix Newspaper Group is offering Instagram as an online social media advertising site along with 15-second video clips as part of its advertising for those who sign for a minimum of 3 months or spend of $2000 or more.
“Video is a part of our multimedia package and we are proud to offer this to our advertisers.”
