The 2021 Holden HD/HR Nationals will descend on Cowra this weekend for the first time, with around 95 vintage vehicles expected to make the trip from around the country this Saturday.

The event is the annual gathering of all HD and HR enthusiasts Australia wide, and is said to be the highlight of the HD-HR year, where the most HD and HR’s are gathered at the same place at the one time.

The event rotates between each state and territory each year, and was held in Queensland last year, however due to the state border closure, only entrants from Queensland were able to attend. This year’s event will see a return to almost normal, with cars from all states and territories except for Victoria and Tasmania able to make the trip, due to Victoria’s recent COVID lockdown, and restrictions on Tasmanians driving through Victoria.

The centrepiece of the event will be the “Show & Shine”, the main display at Bryant Park where the public can see the displays of each vehicle, and where the judges judge each vehicle in various categories.

Award winners for each category are then announced at the dinner on Sat-urday night at the Cowra Showground Pavilion.

Events Coordinator Dave Bates said around 95 cars would make the trip to Cowra on Saturday.

“We have cars that are original to fully restored, and ordinary to highly modified,” he said.

“Anyone with a Holden HD or HR car manufactured between 1965 and 1975 is able to enter.”

Mr Bates said the event was looking forward to visiting Cowra for the first time.

“We like to have the event at rural towns to get peo-ple to go to them and support businesses in those towns,” he said. Award categories on Saturday night include ‘original’, ‘restored’, ‘era-sports’, ‘modified’, and ‘highly modified’.

The “Show and Shine” will start run from 9am to 3pm.
