The cold temperatures did little to stop the car enthusiasts on Saturday morning as they made their way down to the Railway Station for the 20th HD/HR Holden Nationals. The Show & Shine kicked off and the bonnets were up and doors opened allowing people to step back in time and take a look inside the spectacular array of close to 100 vintage Holden’s on display. With the vast selection of pristine colours and models, there was something there to suit everyone’s tastes. Some entrants took a step further and added sneaky little details that opened up a door to the past for the crowd. Vintage picnic baskets and blankets were neatly placed in the boots and along back seats, and a tray of burgers and fries had been attached to the window of one Holden. If you looked close enough you may have spotted the fox tail hanging from an aerial. The tail is a tradition for Robert Thain, the proud owner of a HR Special on display who travelled from Wombat with his partner Hellen in his Holden and was very pleased with crowd numbers.

“It’s a good sized crowd so far and good weather. It’s a great turn out. It’s good to see so many out and about” Robert said.

The momentum kept moving throughout the night with the presen-tations being held in the showground pavilion where entrants battled it out for their trophies and enjoyed a lovely night out. To finish off their momentous trip to Cowra the old Holden’s hit the road for a Sunday cruise to Canowindra. They were able to catch all the sights and were treated to a delightful lunch before they returned home to tuck away their prized possessions safely in their garages. Their next gathering will be in Canberra next year.
