With the Hockey season inching closer, Cowra Hockey club have announced a brand new 5-week Hybrid competition that will kick off this Thursday 10th of March at 5.30pm.

President Justin Smith believes it is a great way to not only have some fun, but to spark interest in ex-players, or people who want to give Hockey a go.

“We are running a free 5 week competition, with no registration fees or other costs, to encourage people to give it a try,” he said. Like many other sporting clubs in Cowra, Covid caused a brutal hit to player numbers, with participation not being as high as many would like. With two consecutive seasons of lockdowns and interruptions, it has left many team sports fighting to bring players back to the field and to the sport.

The fun and friendly pre-season hybrid competition includes 7-a-side, all ages, modified games with individual and team nominations welcome.

If you don’t have a team, don’t panic, Justin has you covered. “Just turn up on the day, if you don’t have a team we will sort it out for you,” he said.

The competition is family friendly and is geared to encourage people to get involved and experience just how fun and exciting hockey can be for all ages.

Hopes are high for an increase in sign-ups following the 5-week competition, with the official Hockey season due to get started on the 30th of April.

To get involved in the pre-season competition players just need to turn up at 5.30pm this Thursday at the Edgell Park hockey fields or alternatively if you have any questions, please contact the club at hockeycowra@gmail.com or contact Justin Smith on 0411244089.
