More than 600 students descended upon the Cowra Try a Trade Day as they got hands-on with their careers at Cowra High School yesterday, Tuesday 2nd September.
An initiative delivered by the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) program which connects schools with employers and industry, the event aimed to expose students in a hands-on manner with employment opportunities within the region.
The students got to:
- Screw plasterboard to a frame and patch holes
- Use an AR welding simulator
- Compete in a clutch assembly competition
- Use small power tools
- Process flowers for small bouquet making
- Try their hand at firefighting tools
The event was attended by students from Cowra High School, Henry Lawson High School, Tullamore Central School, Blayney High School, Oberon High School, Canowindra High School and St Raphael’s Catholic School.
Exhibitors/employers included Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries NSW, Cowra Bowling & Recreation Club, TAFE NSW Cowra Machinery Centre, NSW Police and Bloom Flower Studio.
