Holmwood Public School Principal Melissa Tracy says Holmwood offers a great environment for students to learn in, as it is set amongst trees and large grassy areas.

With a student head count of 34 being taught by three classroom teachers, the teacher to student ratio is unrivalled, creating wonderful learning opportunities for its students. Outside of the classroom, all students in the school combine for recess, lunch and other activities, and are not segregated based on their year group, which Melissa said allowed them to develop great relationships with each other.

“We also pride ourselves on providing great resources for our students, with each student receiving a laptop to use for their learning,” she said.

“Being out of town, we can also provide a great environment for our students, being surrounded by open pastures and fresh air.”

The school’s playground features a bike track, with students able to ride a bike along it during recess and lunch - something no other public school in the Cowra Shire has. Melissa added that the school focuses on hands on projects for its students, and engages in fun science activities, including robotics.

“It’s a lovely place for our students to learn and our staff to work, and being a small school, everyone looks after each other,” she said. “We also have access to the Small Schools Network where we combine with other small schools for carnivals, and the students love it.
