The Cowra Hospital redevelopment will be the largest project in the Cootamundra electorate in 2025-2026, with $25.9 million commited to continuing the build under the next NSW Government budget.
The $110.2 million hospital is well on track to be completed by the end of the year, providing vital health services to Cowra and surrounds in a modern facility that will replace the seven decades old current Cowra Hospital.
Some of its main features will include a larger ED and maternity ward, a nursery, the hospital’s first ultrasound facilities, gardens and car parking, plus many more public health services.
The budget has also set aside vital funding to continue Cowra’s Resilian service, a critical service for helping families with newborn babies and infant children.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, welcomed the funding.
“Cowra Hospital is without a doubt the single biggest public infrastructure project for the Cootamundra electorate, and while we are well into that build, there is still a long way to go - so this year’s commitment by the NSW Government to continue that project is very much welcomed,” she said.
In other budget announcemnets for the Cootamundra electorate, $700,000 in new Aboriginal Housing works is in the pipeline as part of the Social Housing Accelerator Fund and 1.7million in social housing upgrades is progressing in Cootamundra.
$19.9 million has been allocated through the Fix Country Bridges commitment and $8.428 million to assist local councils with funding to repair, maintain and seal priority local roads.
$27 million for repair and construction of water and sewer infrastructure in the Central West, while small businesses will benefit from a $150 credit on their electricity bills until Christmas.
From 1 July 2025, small businesses may also be eligible for around a 30% discount on the upfront cost of installing small-scale battery systems.
The Wyangala Dam Wall Raising Project has once again been left out of the budget, in another indication it may never come to fruition.
