Energizing Macquarie Street

Cowra Council 2021 Election Candidate Donna Peters says a revitalised Macquarie Street precinct would bring fresh energy to Cowra.

Ms Peters said if elected, she would push for works in that area, including family friendly eateries, public art, lighting, plantings and a pop-up outdoor screen.

She said similar projects has taken place in George Street, The Rocks, in Sydney’s CBD, and if Sydney’s CBD can access these facilities at The Rocks, then Macquarie Street Cowra deserves a similar revamped precinct.

“Bringing new energy into the Macquarie Street precinct could well be the ‘oomph’ our area needs,” she said.

“If it’s possible in Sydney’s CBD surely this is possible in Macquarie Street, Cowra. It would be a lovely venue to enjoy a meal anytime of the day and well into the evening.”

Mrs Peters said she thought a wall mural in Macquarie Street would also be a welcome addition to the revamped precinct and will approach Council with a view to including this in any future arts grants.

“Cowra Council is currently advertising grants for public art, including murals, and is accepting submissions until December 6 from interested artists,” she said.

“I would love to see more public art and sculptures in the CBD, and regular music events such as evening Buskers Picnics, under fairy lights at Bryant Park. I think community is a lovely way to bring us all together following our Covid restrictions”.
