The “Dinawans Connection” Aboriginal Dance Group.

For 15 years Dinawans Connection have danced their way into the hearts of many locals. Their traditional dances are breath-taking and awakening as they invite and welcome people to Wiradjuri country, keeping the traditional custodians of the land strongly represented in the community. The tight knit group do not only perform, but also teach the traditional dances to the next generation, helping them to build connections through dance.

Dinawans Connection member and local William Ingram, a.k.a. “Picky”, spoke about how important it is to stay involved in cultural events and keep the traditions going well into the future. “I got involved through learning more about our cultural history and participating in cultural events whenever I can, to keep alive the continuation of the oldest living culture on the planet.”

With younger generations coming though, William firmly believes it comes down to passion.

Their lessons reach far and wide as they take their knowledge to schools, helping children to learn more about aboriginal history through dance and tradition. Dinawans Connection dancers perform at local sporting events, schools, official ceremonies and events but don’t think for a moment that they stop there. The very talented group take their magnificent cultural traditions all the way to the NRL Center Stage and further. For more information you can find them on Facebook or keep your eyes peeled around town, you just never know where they may be dancing next.
