Cowra residents will line up at the polling booths this Saturday to vote in the electoral district of Cootamundra as part of the highly anticipated 2023 NSW Election.

Cowra Shire is a part of the Cootamundra electorate in the NSW Parliament, along with Bland Shire, Narrandera Shire, Coolamon Shire, Temora Shire, Junee Shire, Weddin Shire, Hilltops Council and Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. From this election, the electorate has been expanded to include the former Boorowa Shire Council area, part of Hilltops Council, which has still been a part of the Goulburn electorate until now. The seat of Cootamundra is currently held by Nationals member Steph Cooke, who has held the seat since the 2017 byelection when former member Katrina Hodgkinson resigned.

Ms Cooke won the 2019 general election with a margin of 63.66%. The seat has been held by the Nationals since its creation in 2015, with the former electorate of Burrinjuck, which incorporated part of Cootamundra, including Cowra, being held by the Liberal and Nationals parties since 1988. Challenging Ms Cooke for Cootamundra this year will be Labor’s Chris Dahlitz, The Greens’ Jeffrey Passlow, Shooters, Fishers and Farmers’ Jake Cullen, Sustainable Australia Party’s Christopher O’Rourke, and independents Brian Fisher and Robert Young.

Mr Fisher is the only candidate based in Cowra. Ms Cooke lives in Young, while Mr Dahlitz is based in Narrandera. Mr Passlow is from Stockinbingal, Mr Cullen from Cootamundra, and Mr O’Rourke is based outside the electorate in Bathurst. Mr Young is from Gundagai. Pre-polling is available at the St Peters Presbyterian Church in Cowra until 6pm on Friday, 24th March.

Polling centres in Cowra Shire on election day, Saturday 25th March, will be Billimari Public Hall, Cowra Public School, Cowra Tennis Club, Gooloogong War Memorial Hall, Morongla Creek Public Hall, Mulyan Public School and Woodstock Public School.

All polling centres on election day will be open from 8am until 6pm.
