The Cowra Lions Club has revealed the importance of supporting them in their local fundraisers, including buying and enjoying a Lion’s Sausage Sandwich. Funds raised have recently been allocated to assisting local diabetes patients in purchasing sharps containers for their needles, as well as supporting Cowra’s local railway history.

Diabetes patients need to carry out regular testing with needles, and because of this, special containers are needed for the safe and responsible disposal of sharps items.

President of Cowra Lions, Graham Apthorpe, said that the Cowra Lion’s Club is aware that sharps’ containers are an expense that adds to all other costs and is pleased to be able to assist indi-viduals by making these available at no charge.

“Cowra Lion’s Club recognises that local educators like Jenny Richmond can assist diabetes patients to manage those parts of their life to reduce the effects of this disease which if left untreated can have very serious health effects,” he said.

The Lions Club has also helped to tell the story of Cowra’s Rail History.

Mr Apthorpe, said that its members know that helping organisations such as the Lachlan Valley Railway is important. “We hope that our small contribution can assist this incredible group of volunteers to continue restoring and preserving its equipment, locomotives and carriages,” he said.
