Rugby League

The rain may have dampened the field at River Park on Saturday June 26 but it was no match for the dedication in the hearts of the junior Magpies. Leaving nothing in the tank, the juniors slogged it out in the rain from Under 6’s right through to the Under 15’s. The weather didn’t stop the loyal past and present players from coming down to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CJRL. Reserve grade Magpies along with the old boys manned the BBQ’s while children flocked to the blow up obstacle course regardless of the downpours. The under 12’s, 13’s and 15’s fought it out against St Pat’s while the under 14’s battled through a tough game against Bloomfield.

A display of photos that ranged from 1970’s to today helped peo-ple reflect on how long CJRL has been a part of the Cowra com-munity. The club was delighted to meet one of the early committee members from the 70’s on the day, who also brought along one of the original Magpies blazers and some amazing photos. A minute’s silence was observed for the magpies who have passed away since the club formed in 1971, and a fabulous traditional dance was performed by Dinawans Connection between the games.
