Cowra was centre-stage on national television last Wednesday night, with Cowra Railway Station a a Lachlan Valley Railway train featuring in the 2025 season finale of Australian soap opera, Home and Away.

While the location of the finale was known to locals since July, when actors and actresses from the show were spotted filming at Cowra Railway Station, the episode did not air until last week, with Home and Away well known for filming its episodes several months ahead of them airing.

Cowra Railway Station was used as the fictional Yabby Creek Railway Station in the episode, with the storyline following new character Eddie Shepherd, a musician, who was invited to travel by train to Broken Hill to perform at a music festival.

The train trip was organised as a party itself, with dancing and music taking place on the railway station platform befire continuing on the train itself, with several other prominent Hoem and Away characters joining Eddie on the trip.

Some time after the train departs Yabby Creek Station (Cowra Station), it approaches a tunnel, which had three young people (protrayed by Cowra locals) doing grafitti art, unaware the train was approaching.

They leave in fear of being hit, leaving their bikes on the train tracks, which teh train crashes into, derailing it.

This is where the episode ends, leaving viewers in suspense for what might happen when the series returns next January.

The railway tunnel was filmed on location near the village of Carcoar, while shots of the train travelling were filmed along the tracks at Cowra.

Lachlan Valley Railway posted on its Facebook page shortly after the episode aired, confirming their involvement in the exciting episode.

“Well... Cat’s out of the bag now! It would have been a long, long trip from Yabby Creek to Broken Hill at 30km/h behind D9 if it wasn’t for those flamin’ kids in the tunnel!” it read.

“By the magic of television the whole episode was compliant and no incident forms were required..... Thanks again to the Home and Away team and the Seven Network for making our little railway look so good on the screen! It was a great adventure for us....”

Cowra was never referenced in the episode, but locals know where the episode was truly filmed.
