Cowra Eisteddfod 2023 Begins

The Cowra Eisteddfod commenced on the 3rd May, with the Speech and Drama Sections, which were held at Club Cowra who have sponsored all the Speech Sections.

The Speech and Drama Scholarship for $2000 was won by Margaret Hodge of Bathurst.

The Junior Championship winner was Tora Farrar from Bathurst. Tora was also the winner of the Noel Hopkins Memorial Trophy for Humorous Verse and the Kumar Trophy for the Highest Aggregate. The Senior Championship winner was Kiri Jenssen from Ermington.

Local competitor Hazel Mullins of Cowra, was the winner of the 8yrs Point Score - the 12& under Local Point Score and the Joan Ryan Memorial Encouragement Award.

The Cowra CWA Evening Branch Shield for Open Skit was won by St Raphael’s School.

The Eisteddfod continued with the Junior Dance Groups on Saturday 13th with 2 sessions - 11am and 1:30pm. Instrumental Sections were held from 15th to 17th May.

This will be followed by the Vocal Sections from 18th to 21st May, culminating with the Farleigh Vocal Scholarship and the Patricia Fagan Aria Championship held on 21st.

Tickets for all these Sessions can be purchased at the Door – and programmes are now available at the Library ($6 each) or at the Civic Centre during any sessions.

Dancing Sections will then commence on 24th May with the School Dance Group Sections - followed by the 5 to 10yrs Solo Sections. Again, tickets are available at the door and programmes $6 each) are available from the Library and Civic Centre during Sessions.

Dance Groups will be held on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May with 4 sessions each day. This is a very full programme, and some tickets are still available on the Civic Centre booking site. Dancing Sections for 12 years to Open Age will continue over the following week - with 3 sessions each day, with Championships and Scholarships, including the $2000 Dance Scholarship partially sponsored by Data Voice being held on Sunday 4th June.
