Cowra Shire Council is proud to celebrate Local Government Week 2025, recognising the vital role local councils play in creating strong, connected and thriving communities.

“Local Government Week is a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on the everyday work councils do to make our towns and villages great places to live, work and visit,” said Mayor Paul Smith. “Here in Cowra, we’re proud of the projects, services and initiatives that keep our community safe, connected and looking ahead to the future.”

Every year, Cowra Shire Council maintains and upgrades hundreds of kilometres of roads, improves footpaths and cycleways, and delivers major infrastructure projects such as the Low-Level Bridge renewal ensuring safer and more accessible transport options for everyone.

“We know how important strong connections are, whether that’s through reliable roads or modern community spaces,” Mayor Smith said.

“That’s why we continue to invest in facilities like the Cowra Aquatic Centre, our library, cultural precinct and local parks, places where our residents can relax, learn and come together.”

Council is also focused on sustainability and future growth. Initiatives such as tree planting programs, waste reduction strategies and renewable energy investments reflect Cowra’s commitment to driving innovation and planning for sustainable future growth.

“Our vision is to ensure Cowra is not only thriving today, but sustainable for generations to come,” Mayor Smith added. “We’re delivering projects that care for the environment while supporting economic opportunities for local businesses and residents.”

Behind the scenes, Council teams work tirelessly to deliver essential services many people rely on every day, from waste collection and water management to animal services and community development initiatives.

Council also prioritises delivering responsive and high-quality services that meet the evolving needs of the Cowra community.

“Local Government Week is all about recognising these achievements and saying thank you to the community we serve,” Mayor Smith said. “We’re here for you, working every day to build a connected, sustainable and vibrant future for the Cowra region.”
