The Cowra Bowling Club has shown its community spirit once again by making donations to Cowra Junior Rugby League and Royce Simmons’ Big Walk. The club hosted a special dinner back in May when Cowra rugby league legend Royce Simmons completed his ‘Big Walk’, which saw him walk from his home village of Gooloogong, to his current home of Penrith - a distance of over 300km.

He completed his walk to raise money for Dementia Australia, following his dementia diagnosis earlier in the year. The dinner on the first night of his walk at the CBC was one of many he held at various clubs during his journey, with each club using funds raised for local causes. The CBC raised $20,000 from its dinner, and donated $18,000 of it to CJRL, and $2,000 to Royce Simmons’ own foundation, in aid of dementia.

CJRL President Justin Gunn said his club had already used the funds to purchase a new, electronic scoreboard.

“We spent $10,000 on the new scoreboard, and the remaining $8,000 will go towards replacing damaged equipment from the floods, training gear, and our Origin trip to Sydney we take the juniors on,” he said.
