The Cowra Historical Society is calling out for anyone who has memorabilia from past Festivals of International Understanding, to be contributed to a historical display at the Visitor Information Centre.

The display, which has been arranged by the CHS, opened last week and will run until the close of this year’s Festival of International Understanding on April 4.

Items from previous festivals dating all the way back to the inaugural event in 1965 are on display for the public to see, featuring many different items of memorabilia including posters, scrap books and programs.

While there are already many items on display, covering most years of the festival, the CHS is looking for items from Vietnam 2003, Portugal 2009, Finland 2012, Sri Lanka 2013 and Japan 2019.

CHS President Ray Walsh said the display has benefitted from many other contributors already, and is looking for more contributors to fill the gaps.

“If anyone has or knows anyone else with items from any years of the festival that we are missing, please contact myself or the Historical Society, as we would love to include them in the display,” he said.

Mr Walsh thanked major contributors Jan Munday and Marion Starr, as well as Mulyan Public School, which has contributed its own section of the display from the works of students in previous years.

The display is part of this year’s festival, which focuses on the history of the festival, as well as the cultural diversity and history of Cowra.

This year’s festival will be officially opened on Friday April 1 at the Opening Dinner, and will conclude on Sunday night, April 3.
