The Cowra Business Chamber is stepping up to help local businesses get online, by establishing a brand new online local business directory, www.cowrabusinessdirectory.com.

The CBC commissioned local technology consultancy Trevino Advisors to build the website, which allows businesses to create their own online profiles, and be visible online to people that search for them.

The new website is an extension of the CBC’s Cowra Business Hub, it’s premises on Kendal Street that allows businesses and members of the community to hire it’s meeting and office spaces. Members of the CBC are able to list their businesses with ‘tier 1’ status for free, giving them access to all features of the website, while non-members can do the same for a fee of $15 per month, or list for free under ‘tier 2’, which removes some features.

Trevino Advisors’ owner Vincent Trevino said the website would be a game changer for Cowra businesses entering the digital landscape.

“Today, when a customer looks for a restaurant or local service, the first thing they do is pull out their device (mobile phone, desktop, tablet, etc.). A quick search engine query brings them the nearby results they’re looking for. If a local business isn’t visible online, it won’t show up in search results amongst its competitors,” he said.

“There are multiple benefits of local listings for local businesses. Not only do they increase the business’ online visibility – and the business’ chances of getting found online by potential customers – but they are also a way for the business to reach a broader audience.” Mr Trevino said the directory would be especially effective for local small businesses that do not have their own websites, as their profile on the directory was basically a mini website.

“It will help local businesses compete with other small companies, as well as large organizations and chain stores. Mum-and-Pop stores hardly stand a chance against big corporations alone, but when it comes to local listings, the size of the business doesn’t matter – search engines determine placement in search results based on other factors such as trust,” he said.
