Cowra was treated to global Abba tribute royalty last Friday night with Bjorn Again rocking Sid Kallas Oval in front of around 1000 Abba fans.

It was the first time the group had played in Cowra, and the first major outdoor concert to be held since Silverchair played at Sid Kallas Oval in 2007.

Bjorn Again are the only Abba tribute band in the world formally endorsed by Abba themselves, with Abba’s Benny Andersson famously saying on London radio in 1999: “Fans had better make the most out of Bjorn Again because that’s the closest they are going to get to seeing ABBA. ABBA will never reform!’ The group played two 50-minute sets with a 20-minute interval in between, covering all the Abba hits such as ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Money Money Money’, ‘Waterloo’, ‘Fernando’, ‘Does Your Mother Know’, ‘The Winner Takes It All’, amongst many other songs.

The event was organised by local event planners Roundbox Events. Director Debra Clarke it was a real coup for Bjorn Again to be able to come to Cowra.

“We were lucky enough to be able to host them at Sid Kallas Oval for a night that was filled with loads of fun, great music and an amazing atmosphere in the crowd,” she said.

She praised Cowra Council, the owners of Sid Kallas Oval, and the Cowra Magpies, who ran the bar and canteen, for their efforts in making the concert possible.

“Working with Cowra Council was absolutely fantastic. Without the people at Cowra Council this concert would not go ahead. They were able to help us immensely with getting all the permits, the location secured and especially going above and beyond to make this concert a real success,” she said.

“I would like to extend a special thanks to Mark Tucker who was a pivotal member of the Cowra Council team who assisted us every step of the way.”

“A huge thanks has to go out to The Cowra Magpies and President Marc McLeish who without the help of the Club, we would not have been able to hold this event.”

“We are looking forward to holding another concert again at Sid Kallas Oval and would love to welcome Bjorn Again back to Cowra!” Roundbox Events is also seeking feedback on hosting another event in Cowra. It is asking members of the public to submit answers to the following questions: Would you like to see Bjorn Again come to Cowra in Summer of 2024?

Who else would you like to see perform in Cowra? Please email your responses to news@cowraphoenix.com.au.
