Cowra’s big weekend of events this weekend is all set to go, with the Makers Film Festival kicking things off this Friday night in the lead up to the Winter Wanderlust Festival.

The film festival is being run by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery in conjunction with the Cowra Civic Centre, and is on for one night only.

Selected from near and far, this exciting collection of 24 short films encompasses a broad range of craft, design and making disciplines presented in mini documentaries, story-led artist profiles to ingenious animations and music video.

They reveal what drives enduring professional practice, and illustrate a diversity in film-making creativity and genre as much as the traditional and contemporary craft approaches. Disciplines and techniques include Basketry, Ceramic Art + Pottery, Costume Design + Making, Fibre Art, Glassmaking, Jewellery + Metalsmithing, Pearl Carving, Puppet Making, Screen + Block Printing, Sound Design + Making, Stop Motion Animation, Textiles, Weaving, and Zoetropes.

This unique short film festival was launched at the 2021 Indian Ocean Craft Triennial by Maker & Smith, Western Australia, and is an ‘Art After Dark’ event presented by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery (full program at www.cowraartgallery.com.au).

The film festival will be followed by a myriad of other events across the entire weekend as part of the Winter Wanderlust Festival, an initiative of the Cowra Tourism Corporation.

Events include dinner and entertainment at the Ironbark Smoked BBQ on Friday night, a long lunch at The Quarry on Saturday, wine sipping and painting at the Cowra Japanese Garden on Saturday afternoon, wine tasting at the Visitor Information Centre on Saturday afternoon, the ‘Hangover Breakfast’ and artisan markets at the Civic Centre on Sunday morning, and high teas on board a railway carriage at the Lachlan Valley Railway Museum throughout the day on Sunday.
