Eligible school students in Cowra will be able to access a pool of over $10,000 thanks to the funds raised at the hugely successful Battle In The Bush 6 charity fight night in Cowra last Saturday. The event was organised solely to raise money for local school students that need financial support to help pay for out-of-pocket expenses for school purposes, such as new shoes or excursions. Funds raised will be managed by a local private charity that is overseen by local board members, with funds distributed to local schools on a need basis.

The event was organised by local fighter and trainer Jason Steward along with Reece Downing and Liz Shingles, with 14 boxing fights held at the Cowra Showground.

Funds were raised through ticket sales and sponsors, with around 500 people turning out to the event and 13 local businesses contributing sponsorship. Mr Steward said the event was a huge success and thanked everyone that pitched in to help make it possible.

“I can’t thank Reece and Liz enough. They organised and ran the event,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank the Imperial Hotel, Richie, Justine and their staff, for sponsoring and running the bar and catering for the event and hosting the after party back at the hotel.”

He also thanked each local sponsor, including The Australian Hotel, Daffy’s Wise Words, Frock On, One Strength Gym, Cowra Health and Wellness Hub, Breakout River Meats, All Finesse Paint-ing, Boyd Brothers, IBJ Tiling, Vibe Spa & Beauty, and the Cowra Bowling Club. Local fighter Richie Morgan was the best performer for Cowra on the night, win-ning his fight by KO.

Other local fighters included Mr Steward, Luke Kinsey, Luca Mirto, Jai Green and Chris Rowan, with about half winning their fights. Mr Steward thanked all the local fighters, as well as those from Orange and Bathurst that teamed up with the Cowra fighters, as well as those from outside of the Central West that made the event possible.

“The town treated all of our fighters really well,” he said.

“My opponent and Richie’s opponent filled in at the last minute and saved the show, so a big thanks to them too.”
