As part of International Day for People with Disability, Ability Network will be hosting Cowra’s first ever Disability Expo next Wednesday, December 1.

Open to everyone, the expo will showcase support and services available for people with disability, as well as offer a chance to meet up and enjoy a social time together.

The expo committee has invited a wide variety of organisations to hold displays and aims to feature those that offer support with career opportunities, ideas for health and wellbeing, equipment to aid mobility, technology and education, as well as spaces for food and other displays of interest.

The MC of the event will be well-known local identity Tommy Jeffs.

Ability Network CEO Janis Redford said the Expo has something for everyone. “We have an amazing number of organisations attending to provide information to people with a disability, families and carers,” she said.

“This really will be a one-stop shop to find a service or a product you may be looking for.”

“The Expo is an exciting opportunity to talk to many organizations all in the one venue. We hope to make this an annual event for Cowra.”

Organisations attending include Mercy Connect, Aruma, Spiritability, BaptistCare, Cowra Community Health, AidaCare and CINC.

The Carer Gateway bus will be there to provide information to anyone who is a carer. The NDIS Local Area Planners will also be attending to provide information about the NDIS and assessment processes.

Janis said these organisations were included to ensure people looking for services are provided with the information they need to make the right choice to suit their individual needs.

Key presenters during the day include an official opening by the Mayor at 10am, a performance by Aboriginal Storyteller Larry Brandy at 11am and a special visit from Santa Claus at midday. Specialist presenters include the Disability Gate-way at midday and Epilepsy Australia at 1pm.

Ability Network Clients will be running food and drink stalls, plant stalls, raffles and BBQ on the day.

The expo will run from 10am to 2pm at the Cowra Rugby Club, 46 Hartley Street, Cowra.
