Cowra Shire Council has awarded more than $20,000 worth of community grants to 19 worthy local organisations, as part of its 14th round of the Cowra Community Grant program.

The recipients were officially announced at a presentation ceremony at Cowra Shire Council on Wednesday March 30, with community groups awarded in the categories of Arts and Culture, Building and Facility Development, Sport and Recreation, and Small Capital Equipment.

Significant recipients included the Lachlan Valley Railway Society, Cowra Campdraft and Rodeo Association, and Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club, each receiving $2000 under the Building and Facility Development category.

The LVR will use its funds to supply and fit a security door to the entrance of its depot amenities block and lay turf in the surrounding area, while the CCRA will establish a container canteen at its campdaft arena. The CMRC will replace, repair and install wired PA system, and produce a printed 2400 x1200 honour board.

Other notable recipients included Cowra Riding For The Disabled, which received $1550 to replace the fencing of its paddock that was washed away in last November’s flooding event.

The Cowra and District Historical Society, Cowra Amateur Swimming Club, Cowra Netball Association, Cowra Little Athletics, Cowra Eisteddfod, Cowra RSL Sub Branch, Morongla Show Society, and The Corridor Project each received $1000 to spend on various equipment, accessories and repairs.

The Cowra Services Squash Club re-ceived funding to capture an audience to its matches, with $976 to be spent on technology to allow it to broadcast club games. A total of $1000 was granted for Arts and Culture, $8540 for Building and Facility Development, $3976 for Sport and Recreation, and $7670 for Small Capital Equipment, for a grand total of $21186.40.
